Shell begins production at 1.5 bcm/year gas field in the North Sea (UK)

Shell has started production from its Victory gas field in the UK North Sea, for which it had announced the final investment decision (FID) in 2024. At full capacity, the field can produce approximately 150 mcf/d gas per day (1.5 bcm/year), equivalent to about 25 kboe/d. The gas will supply the UK market.

Victory will contribute to Shell’s target of delivering gas projects with a combined production exceeding 1 Mboe/d by 2030. The company expects most of the recoverable gas from the field, located northwest of the Shetland Islands, to be extracted by that time. Shell will extract gas via a single subsea well and transport it to the Shetland Gas Plant through an existing pipeline network. From there, the gas will be delivered to the Scottish mainland at St. Fergus and fed into the national gas grid.

The Victory asset will be transferred to a new independent joint venture, Adura, which will be equally owned by Shell (50%) and Equinor (50%). Regulatory approvals for the establishment of Adura are underway, with completion anticipated by the end of 2025.
