The UK oil and gas company Shell has given financial approval for the development of the Manatee gas field offshore Trinidad and Tobago. The Manatee field is part of the cross-border Loran-Manatee discovery, shared by Trinidad and Venezuela. The field’s reserves are estimated at 10 Tcf (283 bcm) of natural gas, with 7.3 Tcf on Venezuela's side and 2.7 Tcf on Trinidad's side.
In 2021, Trinidad and Tobago produced 26 bcm of natural gas (-15%, -5 bcm compared to 2020). LNG production, destined for export, also fell by 5 bcm (-35%) to 9.4 bcm.
