Shell and METLEN sign MoU for 0.5-1 bcm annual LNG supply (Greece)

Shell and Greece’s METLEN Energy & Metals have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), establishing a framework for cooperation in the supply and trading of LNG (METLEN press release, 25/02/2026).

Under the MoU, the two companies will supply and trade approximately 0.5 to 1 bcm/year of LNG over the five-year period 2027–2031, with deliveries to the Greek LNG regasification facilities in Revithoussa (7.2 bcm/year) and Alexandroupolis (5.5 bcm/year). The agreement also envisages the use of the Vertical Gas Corridor, enabling access to additional European markets beyond Southeast Europe.

Additionally, Atlantic SEE LNG Trade, a joint venture recently established between two Greek companies, the construction and infrastructure group AKTOR Group (60%) and gas supplier DEPA Commercial (40%), has signed four long-term agreements with four partners from Southeast Europe: Albania’s Ministry of Infrastructure and EnergyBulgaria’s state-owned BULGARGAZAluminij Industries and M.T. Abraham Group of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Ukraine’s Naftogaz.

The agreements secure stable LNG volumes over a multi-year horizon and position Atlantic SEE as a commercial conduit for US LNG into the so-called Vertical Gas Corridor. The corridor links Greek energy infrastructure with Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova, and Ukraine, while also serving the wider Western Balkans.

In January 2026Atlantic SEE marked its first regional transaction with a US LNG sale to Ukraine, with BP as supplier and Naftogaz as buyer, signalling the start of its commercial footprint in the regional gas market.

According to our data, Greece’s LNG import capacity amounts to approximately 14 bcm/year. In addition, Greece has several floating regasification projects under development (Enerdata Global Energy Research).
