Shanghai Electric completes 500 MW Manah I solar project in Oman

Chinese developer Shanghai Electric has completed the construction of the 500 MW Manah I solar project, located in the Ad Dakhiliyah governorate in northern Oman. The project has now successfully completed one month of operation following all required assessments and the final handover. Shanghai Electric was responsible for the design, planning, procurement, and construction of the facility and will continue to provide operation and maintenance services.

In partnership with France’s EDF, Shanghai Electric ensured compliance with the technical requirements set by the Omani government under a dual-track agreement. The Manah I solar plant is jointly owned by EDF and Korea Western Power Co. Ltd, with each company holding a 50% stake. The two partners secured project financing in January 2024. A 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) is in place with the state-owned Nama Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP).

By the end of 2024, Oman’s installed solar capacity reached 672 MW, as the country aims to generate 30% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030.
