The Serbian President has presented its Serbia 2030 national strategy, announcing an investment of EUR14.4bn in its energy sector for the 2028-2035 period (Balkan Green Energy News, 09/03/2026). According to the statement, the country targets to install a new nuclear power plant before 2035. To do so, EUR3bn will be destined for the project, aiming to develop between 1 GW and 1.65 GW of new nuclear capacity. Serbia also plans to complete the second phase of its nuclear program by 2032.
About EUR6.5bn should be invested in production capacities, particularly in gas-fired power plants for their stable and flexible production for which EUR940m will be destined to install 1 GW of new gas capacity and promote the participation of the private initiative in the sector.
An investment of EUR2.4bn is planned for the renovation of 13,000 km of the grid, 4,000 substations, and 1,000 km of transmission lines. A new oil pipeline with Hungary is also being planned and 100 km of fuel pipelines across Serbia to enable a fast and secure transportation of these products.
