Senegal and Mauritania will jointly develop the Greater Tortue gas field

The governments of Senegal and Mauritania have signed an inter-governmental cooperation agreement to develop the resources of the Greater Tortue offshore gas field, which straddles the maritime boundaries of the two countries and is estimated to hold around 25 tcf of gas (around 707 bcm). This agreement enables to split equally the resources, taxes and revenues between the two countries and will allow the project developers BP and Kosmos Energy to make a positive final investment decision (FID) by the end of 2018.

BP farmed in at the end of 2016 and holds 60% of the project while Kosmos Energy owns 30% stake and Société des Pétroles du Sénégal (Petrosen) holds 10%. Gas production could start as of 2021 and would be processed by a 2.5 Mt/year floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) facility to supply gas to Senegal and Mauritania and to exports to global markets.
