The Senegalese Regional Development Committee (CRD) has approved the start of construction on the GTA-Gandon gas pipeline segment, marking a key milestone in the national gas network rollout (national press, 05/05/2026). This 85 km section, comprising 45 km offshore and 40 km onshore, will connect the Grand Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) offshore terminal to the planned 250-300 MW gas-fired power plant at Gandon, near Saint-Louis.
The project forms the northern backbone of the 2.5 bcm/year Senegal Gas Network (RGS), to link the gas fields (Yaakar Teranga, Sangora, and GTA) to the consumption centres, including power plants, IPP, and industrial sites to reduce their production costs. It will initially supply gas for domestic power generation, with future extensions planned to Tobène, Cap des Biches, Sendou, and Malicounda power plants, ultimately spanning 300-400 km to Dakar.
