The US LNG project developer Sempra has taken a final investment decision (FID) to proceed with the development, construction, and operation of Port Arthur LNG Phase 2 in Port Arthur, Texas (United States). This second phase will comprise two additional natural gas liquefaction trains (Trains 3 and 4) with a combined nameplate capacity of approximately 13 Mt/year, one LNG storage tank, and related infrastructure. Commercial operations are expected in 2030 and 2031 for Trains 3 and 4, respectively. To date, 10 Mt/year of Phase 2 capacity has been sold under 20-year sales and purchase agreements to ConocoPhillips, JERA, and EQT.
Phase 1 of the Port Arthur LNG project, which includes two liquefaction trains with a combined capacity of 13 Mt/year, two LNG storage tanks, and associated facilities, is currently under construction. Train 1 and Train 2 are expected to begin commercial operations in 2027 and 2028, respectively. The project is being developed by Sempra Infrastructure, a 70%-owned subsidiary of Sempra.
