Sempra plans to double capacity at its Port Arthur LNG project (US)

Sempra Energy has filed a request with the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to begin the pre-filing review process of its Port Arthur LNG expansion project in Texas (United States). Sempra plans to double the capacity of its liquefaction project by adding two LNG trains to the two 5.5 Mt/year trains that have already secured approval. The formal application for the proposed expansion project should be filed in January 2020. Sempra expects to receive the siting, construction and operation permit for the expansion by January 2021 to start construction in March 2022.

The Port Arthur LNG project is developed by Sempra Energy and will include two 5.5 Mt/year trains for a total capacity of 11 Mt/year. Sempra Energy selected Bechtel as the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC) contractor for the project in 2018. FID is expected in the first quarter of 2020 and the project could start in 2023.
