Sempra Energy's Port Arthur LNG project receives new clearance (US)

The US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has granted the final environmental impact statement (EIS) to the Port Arthur LNG project developed by US energy company and LNG operator Sempra Energy in Jefferson County (Texas, United States). This is the last step in the environmental review process before FERC can proceed to issue a final order approving the project.

The Port Arthur LNG liquefaction project will include two trains capable of producing 11 Mt/year (14.85 bcm/year), up to three LNG storage tanks and associated facilities and new natural gas transmission pipelines in Texas and Louisiana. Sempra Energy selected Bechtel as the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC) contractor for the project in 2018. The project is expected to start in 2023.

The terminal is also supported by sale-and-purchase agreements and in particular by a 20-year supply contract for 2 Mt/year signed with the Polish state-run oil and gas company PGNiG in December 2018.
