Sempra and TotalEnergies strengthen cooperation in North America

Sempra has announced several agreements with TotalEnergies. The US energy group has entered into a preliminary non-binding Heads of Agreement (HOA) with its partners in the Cameron LNG export plant in Hackberry, Louisiana (United States), namely TotalEnergies (17%), Mitsui (17%), and Japan LNG Investment (a joint venture of Mitsubishi and NYK, 17%), for the development of the second phase of the liquefaction project. The project includes the construction of a single LNG train with a capacity of 6.75 Mt/year and the debottlenecking of the existing three LNG trains (combined capacity of 13.5 Mt/year). Under tolling agreements contemplated in the HOA, Sempra would hold 50.2% of the fourth train production capacity and 25% of the debottlenecking capacity. The project is not expected before 2027 at the earliest.

In addition, Sempra has signed two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with TotalEnergies to strengthen their North American strategic alliance. Partners plan to jointly develop the Vista Pacifico mid-scale LNG production project in Topolobampo on Mexico's west coast; TotalEnergies would take a minimum interest of 16.6% in the project and would offtake 1/3 of the future LNG production (expected capacity of 4 Mt/year). In addition, Sempra and TotalEnergies would jointly develop several renewable energy projects in North America. Sempra could buy 30% of TotalEnergies’ interest in an offshore wind project off the coast of California (US) that is preparing for an upcoming auction, while TotalEnergies could acquire 30% of Sempra’s stake in some onshore renewable projects under development along the Mexico-US border.
