Sembcorp Industries has completed its acquisition of Alinta Energy from Chow Tai Fook Enterprises, adding a 3.4 GW operational portfolio and 10.4 GW development pipeline to its assets (Sembcorp press release, 11/06/2026). The AUD6.5bn (USD4.3bn) acquisition has been cleared by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission and the Foreign Investment Review Board, and it will be managed under Sembcorp’s “Renewables East” portfolio, which includes China, Southeast Asia and Oceania.
Alinta’s pipeline features major storage installations under development, including the 250 MW/1 GWh Reeves Plains BESS in South Australia (commissioning scheduled for 2028), a 100 MW/200 MWh BESS at Wagerup with approval for an expansion of 300 MW, and the 900 MW/7.2 GWh Oven Mountain pumped hydro storage project currently under its design phase.
First announced in December 2025, the deal supports Sembcorp's strategy to reach 25 GW of global renewables capacity by 2028.
