ScottishPower to be awarded large supply contract

ScottishPower has been awarded the biggest power supply contract in Scotland by Procurement Scotland, and the electricity supplied will be attributed to renewable energy sources.

ScottishPower won three out of the four lots available, including the most significant award - the right to supply large Scottish public sector buildings. Starting in October 2009, this contract will be available for use by all schools, universities, hospitals and prisons together with all large government and local authority buildings.Procurement Scotland's tendering process started in September last year with six major energy companies taking part in the process. Together, all three contracted lots won by ScottishPower will be worth around £600 million over a possible 4 year term and is the first major utilities tender to be awarded by Procurement Scotland

As part of this award ScottishPower also won the right to power all of Scotland's street lighting requirements.
