Scotland (UK) awards planning consent to two 400 MW electricity storage projects

The Scottish Government Energy Consents Unit (United Kingdom) has awarded planning consent to two 400 MW grid-connected battery storage projects, each providing 800 MWh of energy storage capacity. The storage facilities are located in Hunterston and Kincardine, are developed by Amp Energy and are expected to be operational in April 2024. They will provide grid stability services and power management across the central belt of Scotland including Glasgow and Edinburgh, storing and managing the dispatch of energy generated from Scottish wind plants. In addition, the two projects are also participating in National Grid's Scottish Stability Pathfinder 2 tender, which seeks to address voltage and stability issues faced by the UK electricity grid.
