The Norwegian company Scatec and the UAE’s AMEA Power have signed separate power purchase agreements (PPAs) to develop a total of 2 GW of solar capacity with energy storage in Egypt. Scatec has signed a 25-year PPA with the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) for a 1 GW solar and 100 MW/200 MWh battery storage hybrid project in Egypt. Under the agreement, Scatec will be responsible for engineering, procurement and construction (EPC), asset management and operations and maintenance services for the project.
In addition, the Emirati renewable project developer AMEA Power has also signed a PPA to develop a 1 GW solar project with a 600 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in the Benban area of Egypt’s Aswan Governorate, as well as a PPA for an additional 300 MWh BESS. The project will be an expansion of AMEA Power's 560 MW Abydos solar project, currently under construction in Kom Ombo and expected to be commissioned in late 2024 or early 2025.
