Saudi Arabia's oil production cut by 5.7 mbl/d

Saudi Arabia's oil production is temporarily cut in half after attacks. The destruction caused fires on Saturday 14 September 2019 at two of Aramco's production sites. These attacks led to a "temporary suspension of production" at the two affected sites, Abqaiq and Khurais, which represent about 50% of Aramco's total production. The two facilities normally produce 5.7 mbl/d, about 5% of the world's daily crude production. Saudi Arabia ministry of energy has announced that part of the decrease will be compensated for its customers through stocks.

According to the ministry of energy, the attacks have also led to the cessation of the production of 2 bcf/d (56.5 bcm/d) used to produce 700 kbl of NGL, which will reduce the supply of ethane and NGL by up to about (50%). The attacks had no impact on the domestic supply of electricity and water from fossil fuel, or on the supply of fossil fuel to the local market.

In 2018, Saudi Arabia was the world's second-largest crude oil producer (4,550 mbl) and the world largest crude oil export country, with 3,750 mbl.
