QatarEnergy has awarded an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract to South Korea’s Samsung C&T Corporation for a CCS project in north Qatar (QatarEnergy press release, 02/11/2025). The facility is expected to support QatarEnergy’s existing LNG production facility in Ras Laffan Industrial City through the capture of up to 4.1 MtCO2/year.
The president and CEO of QatarEnergy expressed the company’s objective “to reinforce its position as a reliable provider of affordable lower-carbon energy” and its “aim to capture over 11 MTPA of CO2 by 2035.” The group launched its first CCS project (2.2 MtCO2/year) in 2019 and is developing two other CCS projects for its North Field East project (2.1 MtCO2/year) and North Field South expansion project (1.2 MtCO2/year).
