Samsung C&T Renewable Energy Australia, the Australian subsidiary of South Korean conglomerate Samsung, is seeking government approval to develop the Darnum BESS project, a 200 MW/800 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS). The project is planned for a site near Warragul, in Victoria’s West Gippsland region. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2027, with completion expected within 18 months.
Darnum is part of Samsung C&T’s expanding renewable energy portfolio in Australia. The company is currently progressing several renewable energy and storage projects across New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland.
In July 2026, Samsung C&T submitted its Boro solar-plus-storage project in New South Wales for assessment under Australia’s EPBC framework. The development comprises a 150 MW solar PV plant and a 250 MW / 1 GWh BESS, providing four hours of storage. The submission followed that of the Comet BESS project, also located in New South Wales, earlier in July (KEI, 24/07/2026).
