Kazakhstan state-owned power utility Samruk-Energy and two Chinese companies have agreed to develop two 500 MW wind power plants in Kazakhstan’s Zhetysu Region (Samruk-Kazyna press release, 25/09/2026). The projects are expected to increase renewable electricity generation in the country while strengthening the region’s energy infrastructure.
China Energy Overseas Investment Company and Overseas Investment Sany Renewable Energy signed the agreement with Samruk-Energy during the Kazakhstan–China Investment Forum, where both countries signed a total of 10 agreements to increase collaboration and investment in priority sectors.
At the end of 2025, Kazakhstan had a total installed capacity of almost 29 GW, of which wind represented around 7% (2 GW).
