RWE will start consultation for 1.2 GW offshore wind project (UK)

RWE npower Renewables has unveiled plans to start local consultation on the Triton Knoll offshore wind project on 19 February 2013. The consultation will run until 5 April 2013. Triton Knoll is a proposed offshore wind park, which would be built off the coast of Mabelthorpe (Lincolnshire, UK) and would consist of up to 288 wind turbines; its capacity could be up to 1,200 MW. RWE npower renewables has decided to use alternating current (AC) to transmit the power from the wind farm to the national grid, due to a number of benefits over the other options considered. The consultation will review the short listed location options for two compounds necessary to transport the renewable electricity generated by the offshore wind turbines to the national electricity grid; the three possible locations where an intermediate electrical compound could be located in the East Lindsey District Council area; and the four options for the siting of an onshore electricity substation in the Boston Borough Council area.
