RWE selects its preferred suppliers for the 1 GW Thor wind park in Denmark

The German energy group RWE has selected Siemens Energy and HSM Offshore Energy as preferred suppliers for the electrical transmission system for the 1 GW Thor offshore wind project, located about 22 km from Thorsminde on the west coast of Jutland, western Denmark. The project will become the largest offshore wind park in Denmark and is expected to be completed in 2027.

Siemens Energy became the preferred supplier for the design, construction and installation of the onshore high voltage substation. The work will be carried out by the company's Offshore Centre of Competence. HSM Offshore Energy was selected as preferred supplier for the engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning of the offshore high voltage substation and its jacket foundation. The construction activities are expected to begin on site in spring 2023.

In January 2022, RWE signed a 30-year concession agreement with the Danish Energy Agency for the Thor offshore wind project and in May 2022, the Danish Energy Agency issued a feasibility study permit for the project. It was awarded to RWE in December 2021.
