RWE gets permit to build a 760 MW offshore wind project in the Netherlands

The German power company RWE has received the permit to build a 760 MW offshore wind park at the Hollandse Kust West (HKW) VII site, located in the North Sea, about 53 km off the Netherland’s coast. The permit was awarded to RWE following a subsidy-free tender launched in the Netherlands in April 2022. The Oranje Wind Power II project provide surplus electricity for green hydrogen production on land and to incorporate floating solar panels to allow a more efficient use of ocean space.

RWE has also bid for another 760 MW offshore wind park for the HKW VI site. The results of the tender are expected to be known by the end of 2022. The company targets 8 GW of offshore wind by 2030. RWE currently owns and operates offshore wind turbines throughout Europe representing a total of 2.4 GW.

The Netherlands, which launched several tenders for its HKW project, targets 21 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030 and 70 GW by 2050.
