RWE & Bourbon partner for French floating offshore wind auction

RWE has formed a partnership with Bourbon to jointly bid for the A06 Mediterranean floating offshore wind auction in France, which offers two sites for floating offshore wind, each with a planned installed capacity of about 250 MW, with potential extensions leading to a total capacity of 1.5 GW. The two companies have applied to be selected as eligible bidders for the tender, the respective announcement by the French government being expected during the coming weeks, while the tender is scheduled to take place in 2023 so that the power plants should be operational by 2030. One of the projects, which would comprise up to 20 turbines should be located about 20 km off Port-la-Nouvelle in Aude, and the other about 20 km from Fos-sur-Mer. The two projects could be extended to reach a capacity of 750 MW in a second phase.

RWE has already qualified to participate in the offshore auctions A04 “La Manche”, together with Total Energies as a partner for a site off the coast of Normandy, and in A05 that is the French first commercial floating offshore wind project, off the coast of South Brittany (Bretagne). France targets 5 GW of offshore wind capacity in 2028.
