RWE gets 1.1 GW offshore wind license in Denmark, sells Swedish wind assets

The Danish Energy Agency (DEA) has granted a 30-year electricity production license to the Thor offshore wind park, currently under construction off the west coast of Jutland, Denmark. The 1.1 GW project is the largest offshore wind project approved to date by the agency and is expected to be fully operational in 2027 (RWE press release, 26/01/2026). Thor is jointly owned by RWE (51%) and Norges Bank Investment Management (49%), with RWE responsible for construction and operations throughout the project’s lifecycle.

In parallel, RWE and Nordic renewables company Aneo have signed a transaction agreement on the sale of RWE’s Swedish wind assets. The deal includes RWE’s onshore wind development pipeline (1.8 GW), its operational onshore wind parks with a combined capacity of 124 MW, and the operational Karehamn offshore wind park (48 MW) (RWE press release, 23/01/2026). Completion of the transaction is subject to customary approvals and is expected in the first quarter of 2026.
