RWE has acquired JBM Solar, a large independent UK developer of solar and battery storage systems, taking over a combined capacity of around 6.1 GW, split into 3.8 GW of solar and 2.3 GW of battery storage projects. Most of the projects are in the central and southern regions of England (United Kingdom). Several plants have already secured grid connections and land. In addition, some of them have obtained the required planning permissions from the relevant authorities and are ready for final investment decisions (FIDs). The first solar and battery storage projects could then be operational as early as end of 2024. It is expected that on average about 450 MW per year will be commissioned.
RWE already has a combined capacity of more than 2.6 GW in the United Kingdom consisting of 10 offshore and 33 onshore wind plants in operation. The German group is also developing offshore wind projects and commercial scale floating wind proejcts in the UK.
