Russia's nuclear power generation reached new record in 2019

According to the Russina nuclear group Rosenergoatom, nuclear power generation in Russia hit a new record in 2019, reaching 208.8 TWh (+2.2% compared with the previous record of 2018). Rosenergoatom, which controls Russian nuclear power plants, was planning to produce 202.7 TWh in 2019. The biggest contributors to the new record were the Rostow nuclear power plant (33.8 TWh), the Kalinin nuclear power plant (31 TWh) and the Balakovo nuclear power plant (30 TWh). Three nuclear reactors were commissioned in 2018, namely the 1,085 MW Leningrad II-1, the 1,114 MW Novovoronezh II-2 and the 1,011 MW Rostov/Volgodonsk-4, and operated at full capacity in 2019.

Nuclear electricity generation accounts for 19% of the total power generation in Russia, and this share in the European part of the country reaches 40%. 38 nuclear reactors with a total gross installed capacity of over 31 GW are in operation at 11 nuclear power plants in Russia.
