Russian hydropower company RusHydro has commissioned the ninth and last 333 MW unit at its Boguchanskaya hydropower plant. The plant will reach its full capacity of 3,000 MW once the reservoir level is filled (completion during 2015). The first three 333 MW units were installed in November 2012 and the plant started to generate power and to sell on the wholesale market in December 2012. Three units were commissioned between January and December 2013. The units 7 and 8 were launched in September 2014. Since its start, the power plant has generated 13 TWh of electricity.
By 2017, RusHydro's power generation is expected to increase by 17 TWh/year, of which 3.3 TWh/year should come from the Boguchanskaya hydropower plant, 3.3 TWh/year from other new hydropower plants and the remainder from thermal power projects. Almost 1 GW of capacity (compared to 2012 figures) will be added through 2025-2030 as a result of extensive rehabilitation and modernization of hydropower plants, primarily of the Volga-Kama cascade, along with efficiency improvements and extension of lifetime for existing assets.
