rPlus Hydro has submitted a Draft License Application for its 972 MW Seminoe pumped-storage hydropower project, located near Rawlins, Wyoming (United States), whose production is expected to reach 2.9 TWh/year. With an estimated construction cost of approximately US$2.5bn, the project involves the construction of one above-ground reservoir and an approximately 30-mile (48-km) transmission line. Construction is scheduled to start in 2026 and the power plant could be fully commissioned in September 2031.
In February 2022, rPlus Hydro submitted a Draft License Application to Nevada and Federal US agencies for its 1 GW White Pine pumped-storage hydropower project, located near Ely, Nevada (United States). The US$2bn project will consist of two new water reservoirs, underground generation equipment and a new transmission line. One of the reservoirs would be located in the Duck Creek Range and the other in the Steptoe Valley.
The country's pumped-storage capacity stands at 21.9 GW (end of 2021).
