rPlus Hydro has submitted a Draft License Application to Nevada and Federal US agencies for its 1 GW White Pine pumped-storage hydropower project, located near Ely, Nevada (United States). The US$2bn project will consist of two new water reservoirs, underground generation equipment and a new transmission line. One of the reservoirs would be located in the Duck Creek Range and the other in the Steptoe Valley near Highway 93.
The Draft License Application includes an overview of the proposed project configuration, baseline studies and data, proposed construction schedules, preliminary environmental analysis, estimated costs, and proposed engineering schematics and project maps. The agencies will have 90 days to review the submission before rPlus Hydro submits a Final License Application to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). Construction is not expected to start before 2026 and will last 5 years, and the project should be commissioned after 2030.
