Rosneft discovers 20 Mt of reserves in new oil field in Russia

The Russian oil giant Rosneft has announced the discovery of a new oil and gas field, Novoognennoye, at the border of the Krasnoyarsk Territory and the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District (northern Russia), which would hold recoverable reserves of over 20 Mt of oil and around 1 bcm of gas. The field was discovered by NK Rosneft's RN-Vankor company, which is seeking to expand the resource base of the Vostok Oil project (so far estimated at 5 Gt of light sweet oil).

In May 2020, Rosneft announed plans to build 115 Mt/year port as part of its Vostok Oil development plans in the Russian Artic. The Vostok Oil project includes the Vankor cluster (15 deposits, including the large Suzunskoye, Tagulskoye, Lodochnoe and Vankorskoye deposits), the West Irkinskoye site (Rosneft), the Payakh group of fields (Neftegazholding) and the East Taimyr field a cluster. The Vostok Oil project could produce 25 Mt/year of oil as of 2024, 50 Mt/year in 2027 and up to 115 Mt/year in 2030, that would be exported along the Northern Sea route to European and Asian markets.
