Rosneft approves Kharampur gas field development (Russia)

Rosneft has approved the development of gas reserves (Cenomanian PK 1 and Turonian layers) of the Kharampur gas field, in the Purovsky district of the Yamal-Nenets autonomous district of the Tyumen region in Russia. Development of the Kharampur field, which was opened in 1979 and has been developed since 1990, is carried out by RN-Purneftegaz. The license was issued to Rosneft in November 2006, authorizing the company to develop oil and gas reserves at the place. Phase 1 of the project envisages the production of more than 190 bcm of natural gas from the reserves of the Kharampur field. The production is set to kick off in 2017. The main Phase 1 target is the Cenomanian layer, which production is characterized by a high rate and low extraction costs. The plan is to produce up to 8 bcm/year. Another 1 bcm/year will be produced from the Turonian layer. The potential for an increase in the production at the field is associated with the full-scale development of the Turonian reserves. The project will require about Rub 1bn (US$30m) of investments into exploration for the period 2013-2014. The decision on Phase 2 of the project, envisaging the production of 24 bcm/year of gas, is to be made in 2018. Rosneft plans to reach production levels of 100 bcm/year of gas by 2020.
