Rosatom delivers equipment for the Rooppur-2 nuclear project (Bangladesh)

ASE (Rosatom) has delivered a VVER-1200 reactor vessel and four steam generators for the second reactor of the Rooppur nuclear power project in Bangladesh, currently under construction. The reactor vessel will be installed into the desigh position in September 2021.

The Rooppur nuclear plant will comprise two units with a combined capacity of 2,400 MWe. The units will be a modified version of the NPP-2006 VVER-1200 and will be built on the eastern bank of the river Ganges at Rooppur. Rosatom started the construction of Rooppur-1 in November 2017 while the second unit broke ground in July 2018. In October 2021, Rosatom delivered the reactor vessel and steam generators for the first power unit. The commissioning of the two reactors is planned respectively for 2023 and 2024.

The entire project is worth US$12.65bn and Russia will provide a US$11.38bn credit facility to cover up 90% of the costs. It is projected to generate 10% of Bangladesh's power generation upon completion and will be crucial in improving the country's power supply security.
