Rosatom and EVN sign agreement on nuclear project in Vietnam

Vietnam's state-owned power utility Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) has signed a framework agreement with Russian nuclear group Rosatom on the construction of the first unit of the proposed Ninh Thuan nuclear power plant in Phuoc Dinh.

In November 2014, EVN had selected Rosatom's AES-2006 reactor for its Ninh Thuan nuclear power project, the first of the country. The Nihn Thuan I nuclear project will be built at Phuoc Dinh and will consist of four reactors; Atomproekt will supply the reactors for at least the first two 1,200 MW units and build them as a turnkey project. The first unit is expected to be commissioned after 2023 (with construction starting in 2017 or 2018) and the second in 2024.

A second nuclear plant, Ninh Thuan II is under consideration at Vinh Hai. The project, developed under a partnership with the International Nuclear Energy Development of Japan (JINED, 85% of the project financing), will consist of four reactors (about 1,000 MW each), expected to be commissioned after 2024.
