Romania will put up the 1,285 MW Mintia-Deva coal-fired plant located near the city of Deva in the Hunedoara County (South-Eastern Transylvania) for sale after it was placed under administration. The power plant, which was mothballed in February 2021, is owned by Electrocentrale Deva, an affiliate of the Romanian state-owned power utility CE Hunedoara, which is in insolvency since 2019. Several companies have expressed interest in acquiring the power plant, which is estimated to be worth €100m but would be offered at a liquidation value of €60m.
Romania had an installed capacity of nearly 21 GW at end-2021, 60% of which was CO2-free (32% hydro, 14.5% wind, 7% solar, 7% nuclear) and 40% thermal (18% oil, 15% coal, 7% gas, and less than 1% biomass).
