The Spanish oil and gas company Repsol has started producing electricity at the first phase of 364 MW of the Antofagasta wind project in the district of Taltal (Antofagasta, in northern Chile). The Antofagasta Phase 1 is the first renewable project developed entirely by Repsol in Chile, with an investment of almost €400m (US$455m). The project is expected to start commercial operation in the second quarter of 2025, to reach an annual production of about 750 GWh, enough to power approximately 220,000 average Chilean households. Repsol also plans the construction of the project’s Phase 2 in the same region as the Phase 1, which will add approximately 450 MW to its Chilean renewable asset portfolio.
The Antofagasta Phase 1 and Phase 2 wind parks are wholly owned by Repsol. The company currently has almost 4,000 MW of renewable energy in operation and a global project portfolio of 60,000 MW in different stages of development.
