Repsol plans a new 860 MW wind project in northern Spain

The Spanish oil & gas group Repsol plans to develop an 860 MW wind project in the province of Huesca, Zaragoza and Teruel, in Aragon (northern Spain). The company is developing the 335 MW Delta wind project in the same area, which is planned for end-2020. The project, named Delta 2, will be built and operated by Repsol’s subsidiary Repsol Electricidad y Gas. Commissioning is expected in 2023. Repsol has 2,952 MW of renewable capacity and 2,045 MW under development, including the 255 MW PI wind project, located between Palencia and Valladolid, the 204 MW solar project in Cádiz (Sigma),the 264 MW solar project in Valdesolar (Badajoz); and the 126.6 MW Kappa solar project near Ciudad Real.

In December 2019, Repsol pledged to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. The group aims to reduce its carbon intensity by 10% by 2025 (compared with a 2016 baseline), by 20% by 2030, by 40% by 2040, until reaching net-zero CO2 emissions by 2050. In addition, the company raised its target for low-carbon power capacity by 3 GW to 7.5 GW by 2025 and will start to expand into other markets in order to become an international leader in renewable energies.
