Renewable energies set to grow by 43% up to 2022 (World)

The International Energy Agency (IEA) published its forecasts on the development of renewable energies over the next five years. The latter is expected to grow by a further 920 GW or 43% of their current capacity by 2022; the trend will be driven by incentives in favour of the sector and by the reduction in the costs of solar PV and wind energy. Three countries, namely China, India and the United States, will account for approximately two-thirds of global renewable energies expansion by 2022.

The projected average growth of renewable energies is mainly driven by solar PV in the BRICS (China and India) and will reach 12%, a figure above the 6% increase reached in 2016. In 2022, the production coming from renewable energies is expected to reach 8,169 TWh, representing a one-third increase over the current production and the current consumption of China, India and Germany combined. This figure will also represent 29% of the world's energy mix, compared with the current 24%.
