Reconstruction work is set to start on two large hydropower plants with a total capacity of 1.3 GW in Nigeria after Mainstream Energy Solutions Ltd approved a feasibility study of the work prepared by RusHydro subsidiary RusHydro International AG.
In 2013, the firms signed a 5-year cooperation agreement in regards to modernization of the Kainji and Jebba hydropower plants. The engineering services provided by RusHydro include development of project documentation, organization of tenders for delivery of the equipment as well as for installation and construction works, and also consulting on issues related to the plants operation. RusHydro International AG implements the project in partnership with Institute Hydroproject, Pöyry and Mott MacDonald.
The Kainji and Jebba hydropower plants are located on the Niger river, and have installed capacities of 750 MW and 578 MW respectively. The current available capacity of the plants is however substantially below these figures
