Recurrent Energy Australia has been granted Grid Connection Approval from the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) for its Sundown solar+storage project within the New England Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) in New South Wales (Australia) (Recurrent Energy press release, 20/04/2026). The project will include 340 MWac/443 MWdc of solar capacity and a 150 MW/600 MWh BESS. Once commissioned, the project should provide enough renewable electricity to supply approximately 176,000 households, while improving grid stability by supporting peak demand periods through its integrated storage solution.
Many renewable and storage projects are under development in New South Wales. In February 2026, the NSW government awarded contracts for developing six new long‑duration battery projects totalling 12 GWh of storage capacity by 2030, as part of the Renewable Energy Rollout tender run by ASL (KEI, 06/02/2026).
