QP, Total, Mitsubishi, ExxonMobil, Hoegh plan LNG project in Pakistan

Qatar Petroleum (QP), Total, Mitsubishi, ExxonMobil, and Hoegh have decided to join Global Energy Infrastructure Limited (GEIL) in the development of an LNG import terminal in Pakistan. The consortium will seek to develop a project that includes a Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU), with a minimum regasification capacity of 750 mcf/d (21 mcm/d or 7.7 bcm/year) by 2018.

In July 2016, GEIL signed a long-term (20-year) Sale and Purchase Agreement (SPA) with Qatargas, for the supply of 1.3 Mt/year (1.75 bcm/year) of LNG from Qatargas 2 to Pakistan over a 20-year period starting in 2018. The SPA includes provisions allowing the volume to increase to 2.3 Mt/year.

Qatar Petroleum is seeking to expand overseas through joint ventures with international oil companies and is exploring oil and gas in Morocco and Cyprus. The company is also interested in the gas sector of Mozambique, where it could join ExxonMobil and Eni in LNG developments.
