Qatargas signs 22-year LNG supply agreement with PetroChina

Qatari state-held energy company QatarGas has signed a 22-year sale and purchase agreement with Chinese company PetroChina for the supply of around 3.4 Mt/year of LNG (approximately 4.6 bcm/year). Qatargas will ship the fuel from the Qatargas II project to several import terminals across China, including in particular the Dalian, Jiangsu, Tangshan and Shenzhen LNG facilities. The first cargo is scheduled to be delivered by the end of September 2018.

Qatargas II is operated by QatarGas in partnership with Total and ExxonMobil. Qatar is currently the largest LNG producer worldwide, thanks to 14 liquefaction trains with a cumulated liquefaction capacity of 77 Mt/year. The Qatargas complex includes three 3.2 Mt/year trains (Qatargas I, 1996-1998) and four 7.8 Mt/year trains grouped in Qatargas II (2009), Qatargas III (2010) and Qatargas IV (2011).

Qatar's two state-owned LNG producers QatarGas and RasGas were merged into QatarGas in January 2018. Previously, Qatargas operated seven trains (41 Mt/year) while RasGas operated seven trains (36 Mt/year). The rationale of the merger was to create a global energy operator in terms of size and reliability.
