QatarEnergy signs long-term deal to supply 4 Mt/year of LNG to Taiwan’s CPC

Qatar's state-owned company QatarEnergy and Taiwan’s energy group CPC have signed a 27-year sale and purchase agreement (SPA) for the supply of 4 Mt/year of LNG from Qatar’s North Field East (NFE) expansion project to Taiwan. The two companies also signed a share SPA, in which QatarEnergy will transfer to CPC a 5% interest in the equivalent of one NFE train with a capacity of 8 Mt/year. CPC will thus become a partner in the NFE project without changing the interests of other shareholders in the project.

In 2021, QatarEnergy had entered into a 15-year deal to supply LNG to CPC. This deal started in 2022 and the Qatari company is already currently delivering 1.25 Mt/year of LNG to CPC’s receiving LNG terminals.

QatarEnergy has already partnered with several companies on its 32 Mt/year NFE LNG project, offering stakes to Shell, TotalEnergies, Eni, Sinopec, Exxon Mobil and ConocoPhillips. The NFE LNG project is part of the overall North Field LNG expansion programme, which also includes the North Field South and North Field West projects, which will raise Qatar’s LNG production capacity from the current 77 Mt/year to 142 Mt/year in 2030.
