QatarEnergy and Shell sign a 3.5 Mt/year LNG deal to supply the Netherlands

The oil and gas company QatarEnergy has signed a 27-year LNG supply agreement with Shell to deliver 3.5 Mt/year of LNG to the Netherlands. The volumes will be delivered to the Gate LNG terminal, located in the port of Rotterdam, starting in 2026.

The LNG volumes will be sourced from the two joint ventures between QatarEnergy and Shell that hold interests in Qatar’s North Field East (NFE) and North Field South (NFS) expansion projects. Shell owns a 6.25% share in the 32 Mt/year North Field East LNG expansion project and a 9.375% share in the 16 Mt/year North field South expansion project.

Earlier in October 2023, QatarEnergy also signed a 27-year LNG supply agreement with France’s TotalEnergies for 3.5 Mt/year. The Qatari group had already signed 27-year LNG supply agreements with China’s CNPC (4 Mt/year) and Sinopec (4 Mt/year), in June 2023 and November 2022, respectively.
