Qatar Petroleum plans to increase North Dome Field production by 20%

Qatar's national oil company Qatar Petroleum (QP) plans to boost natural gas and condensate production rate from the North Dome Field asset by 20% (around 1 Mboe/d) and announced that it will develop a new project in its southern section. The implementation of the facilities upgrade will last between 5 and 7 years and will raise Qatar's domestic production up to 6 Mboe/d.

Once completed, this new project is expected to increase Qatar's LNG domestic production by 30% from 77 Mt/year up to 100 Mt/year. The additional output will be targeted for export and will strengthen Qatar leading role in global LNG production. QP also plans new LNG liquefaction trains to support this additional production capacity.

The announcement comes a day after Total and CNPC signed an agreement with NIOC Iran to develop the Iranian part of the field. The North Dome Field/South Pars gas field is the largest in the world and is shared between Iran and Qatar, about 80-km north-east of Qatar's mainland.
