Qatar Petroleum awards FEED contract for North Field expansion (Qatar)

The state-run oil and gas company Qatar Petroleum (QP) has selected Chiyoda Corporation (Japan) to carry out front-end engineering and design (FEED) of the onshore facilities of the North Field (North Dome) expansion project. The FEED scope of work includes the design for the addition of three 7.8 Mt/year trains of LNG production with associated pre-investment to add a fourth LNG train in the future. The associated onshore facilities are scheduled to receive 4.6 Gcf/d (approximately 130 mcm/d or 47 bcm/year) from the southern sector of North Field. The North Dome Field/South Pars gas field is the largest in the world and is shared between Iran and Qatar, about 80-km north-east of Qatar's mainland.

Once completed, the extension will deliver an additional 23 Mt/year of LNG and will raise the country's total production capacity from the current 77 Mt/year to 100 Mt/year by the end of 2023. The additional output will be targeted for export and will strengthen Qatar leading role in global LNG production.
