Qatar officially starts building the North Field LNG expansion project

Qatar Energy has officially broken ground on the North Field expansion project, aiming to increase Qatar's LNG production capacity from 77 Mt/year to 126 Mt/year by 2026. This expansion project consists of six trains, with each producing 8 Mt/year of LNG. The project will also produce about 200,000 bbl/d of LPG (propane and butane), and about 450,000 bbl/d of condensates. First construction works started in October 2021.

Four of these trains are part of the North Field East expansion (32 Mt/year), while the remaining two are part of the North Field South expansion (16 Mt/year), contributing a total of 48 Mt/year to the global LNG supply. QatarEnergy is partnering for the project with TotalEnergies, Shell, ConocoPhillips, ExxonMobil, Eni, Sinopec, and CNPC.
