Qatar Energy is on track to double its LNG production capacity (Qatar)

Qatar's national gas and LNG company Qatar Energy has confirmed that the group is on track to double its LNG production capacity in the next few years. Most of the increase will come from expansion projects in Qatar, which should raise domestic LNG production capacity from the current 77 Mt/year to 142 Mt/year, namely the 32 Mt/year North Field East, the 16 Mt/year North Field South project, and the 16 Mt/year North Field West project. In addition, QatarEnergy expects the 18 Mt/year Golden Pass LNG terminal in Texas (United States), in which it owns a stake, to be commissioned by 2025. The group has already signed supply deals with several multi-national companies including TotalEnergies, Shell, Eni, Sinopec, CNPC, ExxonMobil or ConocoPhillips, securing 25 Mt/year of long-term LNG sales.

In 2022, Qatar produced 106 bcm of LNG (ranked third behind the US and Australia) and had proved gas reserves estimated at 23,800 bcm.
