The renewable energy company Photovolt Development Partners (PVDP), based in Germany, has launched a public consultation process to develop and build an 840 MW solar PV power plant in Oxfordshire, southeastern England (United Kingdom).
The Botley West Solar project is expected to be built across three different sites and would be able to produce enough power to supply every home in Oxfordshire, or about 330,000 households. The first phase of the consultation process with the local population is expected to run until 15 December 2022. The Botley West Solar project would need special government classification, which PVDP could apply for as soon as 2023.
At the end of 2021, solar represented 14% of the UK’s installed capacity with 13.7 GW and 4% of its power generation with 12.7TWh. The UK currently has nearly 14 GW of solar projects under development.
