PT PLN updates progress status for 35,000 MW programme (Indonesia)

According to Indonesia's national power utility PT PLN, only 397 MW of new capacities have been commissioned in Indonesia, as part of the "35,000 MW" development plan promoted by the president.

The development plan aims to develop 109 power plants over the 2014-2019 period, i.e. a total of 35,585 MW, including 35 projects developed by PT PLN with a total capacity of 10 681 MW and 74 projects developed by private companies and Independent Power Producers (IPPs) with a total capacity of 25 904 MW. The bulk of the new capacity additions will consist in coal-fired power plants (PLTU) and gas-fired power plants (PLTG, PLTGU).

According to the plan, the first power plant rated 3 MW was expected in 2015, followed by 38 power plants with a total capacity of 2,414 MW in 2016.

At the end of the first quarter of 2016, 397 MW were operational, while 3,862 MW (around 11%) were under construction and commissioning phase. A further 10,942 MW (31%) were under PPA and financial close process, while 8,3778 MW (24%) were under procurement phase and 12,227 MW (34%) under planning stage.

The plan aims to commission 106 power plants (5,577 MW) in 2017, 86 (8,447 MW) and 80 (19,117 MW) in 2019.
