Pre-FEED contract awarded for a 900 MW offshore wind project in Scotland (UK)

The engineering company Kent has been awarded a contract for a pre-Front End Engineering Design (FEED) assessment for the development of the 900 MW Spiorad na Mara offshore wind project, which will be located off Scotland (United Kingdom). The project, formerly known as N4, is located approximately 5 to 13 km off the west coast of the Isle of Lewis and is owned by Northland Power (75.5%) and the Irish energy group ESB (24.5%).

The project could be commissioned by 2031. The wind power plant is expected to meet the average annual electricity needs of around 815,000 Scottish households and offset emissions by 1.36 Mt/year. Kent will conduct a comprehensive assessment for the wind turbine foundation concept, selection and foundation sizing.

Scotland targets 11 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030. At the national level, the United Kingdom aims to reach 50 GW of installed offshore wind capacity by 2030 (13.8 GW in 2022 and 14.7 GW at the end of 2023, according to preliminary estimates).
